The Tegu Factory is one of the largest and oldest within their cooperative, located right off the main road near Karatina. They sort their cherry before pulping, and give the coffee an overnight ferment, before being washed, graded, and dried thoroughly for 8-14 days. The cooperative society maintains a strict processing regime across all their sites, and distributes organic fertilizer to all members.

Nyeri County, Kenya

Tegu, like all other Kenyan coffees, is a day lot made up of many smallholder farmers' crops. The Kenyan coffee system forbids direct relationships with producers and mandates that all coffees are processed by cooperatives and sold by licensed exporters. This unfortunately dilutes individual crops' terroir and disincentivizes agronomic improvements, but highly prioritizes processing quality. Washed Kenyan coffees are immaculate, very clean-tasting.
