Passionfruit White Tea Chamomile

Friend Blend is our collaboration with our friends at Numa Coffee, who’ve been serving Elm at their coffee cart. They wanted to serve something special and we found an amazing coffee from a young new producer from Nariño, Alexander Cabrera. Made up of castillo varietal grown at a breathtaking 2250 masl, we found it tastes of passionfruit, chamomile and white tea in the cup, a wonderfully delicate coffee.

Alexander Cabrera is extremely young for a producer, 27 years old, having inherited his farm El Guayacán from his grandfather, who grew beans and corn. Climate change has made growing coffee at such high altitudes in Nariño viable, so Alexander began growing coffee on his farm six years ago. His trailblazing has been extraordinarily successful, and six of his neighbors have followed suit and planted coffee.

Cabrera is a member of the San Busco group, a small producers association located at dizzying elevations of 2100 - 2300 meters, but within a microclimate insulated from the cold normally found at those altitudes. This is our first year carrying any of their coffees and they seem to be as unique as their geography suggests: very delicate and with complex fruit character, even with “garden-variety” hybrid varietals like Castillo and Caturra.
