Mullugeta has worked his whole life in coffee, leaving his native Bursa village to deliver cherry as a truck driver in neighboring Arsi, where he went on to learn the business. When Bursa began to emerge as a new coffee growing region, Mullugeta returned and started his own processing station, Dawencho, in 2021, and immediately placed 2nd in Cup of Excellence under the Dawencho farmer’s group, and 6th under his own name. In 2022, 4 of the top 10 winners were his lots, including 1st place winner Legesse Botola, Mullugeta’s brother-in-law who processed his coffee with him.

Of course a big part of why this coffee is so special is being traceable directly to Mullugeta Muntasha and him alone. Most producers have to blend their coffee together with hundreds of others at cooperative-run processing station, eliminating all of the individual difference of each farm. This blending is likely the culprit for why Ethiopian coffees can exhibit a fairly narrow band of flavors: washed coffees taste like peach and black tea, naturals taste like blueberry.
